
Lubbock Police Identify Person Killed in Friday Night Crash
A crash on Ave. Q Friday night (July 8) claimed one person's life.
Lubbock police officers responded to a report of the crash at around 9:27 p.m. Friday night.
According to the department, a 2002 Honda Civic and a 2003 Chevy Tahoe were driving southbound on Ave. Q in the 3200 block, with the Tahoe traveling in the center turn lane and the Civic in the lane next to the center lane. Then, a 2007 Ford Five Hundred, which was traveling north in the southbound lanes, crashed head-on with the Civic. The crash forced the two vehicles into the center turn lane, which led to the Chevy Tahoe hitting both vehicles.
The driver of the Honda Civic, 37-year-old Jose Antonio Zarate, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Chevy Tahoe's driver, who was not identified, suffered a minor injury. The driver of the Ford Five Hundred, who also wasn't identified by police, was transported to UMC with life-threatening injuries.
The Lubbock Police Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene and is investigating the crash.
