Camels and elephants and bears, oh my!

We're officially one month away from an amazing event that brings exotic animals, excitement, and educational opportunities to the South Plains. Best of all, this engaging event is fun for any age.

For approximately 25 years, Lubbock's Science Spectrum has been putting on CritterFest and this year will not disappoint. The event runs from June 23rd-26th, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

"The Science Spectrum Museum will turn into a zoo for four days. We will have alligators, crocodiles, and a petting zoo," said James Nesmith, administrative manager of the Science Spectrum. Additionally, along with the annual camel and elephant rides, they have added some impressive new events.

"We're going to have a brand new live educational bear show and we're going to have an educational crocodile and alligator show. It's not like at other events where you may be sitting in a large arena. You're just feet away from the action. There will also be all kinds of other reptiles, snakes, and tortoises on display. It's a really fun, family-friendly event," Nesmith said.

CritterFest also brings vendors, face painting, fair-style food and live dog agility shows. Moreover, you will be able to explore Texas Alive: the Brazos River Journey! This 6,000-square foot aquarium exhibit has both fresh and saltwater fish as well as other animals native to the Lone Star State. Did we also mention that another new attraction will bring lemurs and a kangaroo?

Most impressively, this affordable ticket price gets you access to all of the shows and main attractions, as well as the three stories of museum fun. Additional fees will apply for animal feedings and rides as well as food and photos.
