Ever Wanted to See a Solar Eclipse?
A solar eclipse is an incredible event that only happens a few times in a person’s life. And Lubbock's Science Spectrum is offering a chance to see it with a party.
On Monday, August 21st from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Science Spectrum will be hosting a solar eclipse viewing party.
From Science Spectrum:
Did you know that a total solar eclipse will be visible in parts of the United States on Monday, August 21st, 2017? On an arching diagonal line from South Carolina to Oregon, many cities will experience a 100%, or total solar eclipse for a few minutes. Lubbock will experience a 78% max eclipse, when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun during daylight hours and partially blocks or shades the Sun’s light from reaching us. Locally, the eclipse will begin at 11:30 am, peak with max coverage at 12:57 pm, and then conclude at 2:26 pm.
They will have lots of free activities at the event, including hands-on experiments, refreshment and music, plus a live stream of the eclipse from different locations.
Of course, the Science Spectrum offers a very large tip for that day:
“Never look directly at the Sun or a solar eclipse without approved solar viewing glasses or helmets!”
The Science Spectrum is located at 2579 S. Loop 289 in Lubbock.
