Entire Tree Uprooted at 82nd and University in Lubbock

Photos taken the afternoon of Tuesday, April 12th show an entire tree uprooted near 82nd Street and University Avenue right in front of a Valero gas station.

Pretty much all of the South Plains, Panhandle and Rolling Plains has been suffering from high winds lately, but it usually just results in brown skies and a little bit of that West Texas grit in your teeth.

The National Weather Service in Lubbock issued a wind advisory for April 12th that forecasted winds at around 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 50mph. Apparently, this was enough to completely topple a tree, roots and all.

We actually don't know for sure if it was the wind that blew the tree over or if it was some an outside source, but until it can be determined that something else was responsible I think it's fair to say that the wind is to blame.

Luckily, it doesn't appear that traffic or power was affected much by this tree being uprooted, from what we can tell. You can even see a little bird hanging out underneath the tree in the picture, so maybe it's not all bad.

For the next few days, be careful with the wind, drive safe, and please don't start any fires. I think we've had enough of those the past couple of days.
