UPDATE: The Lubbock Police Department has revealed the identity of the woman who was killed, plus more details on what led to the shooting.

According to police, the body of 28-year-old Yvette Ellis was found inside a home in the 1600 block of 58th Street. Ellis and her boyfriend, 44-year-old Juan Gallardo, were involved in a verbal argument that escalated when a firearm was brandished, police said. Gallardo and Ellis struggled for the weapon, which discharged and struck the latter.

Two children were inside the home at the time of the shooting. They were safely removed by Child Protective Services and are currently in the group's custody.

Gallardo himself called 911 after the shooting. He's since been arrested and charged with manslaughter.

 

ORIGINAL STORY: A shots fired call Thursday night (Jan. 5) in Lubbock led police to discover the body of a woman.

According to Everything Lubbock, officers responded to a call from the neighborhood of 58th Street and Ave. P. around 8 p.m. Upon arriving, the officers found a deceased woman, who had been shot multiple times.

Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Tiffany Pelt told Everything Lubbock that there was some sort of fight before the shooting.

One man was questioned by police. No arrests have been made. The name of the deceased woman has yet to be released.
