A new COVID-19 testing site opens Friday, August 7th, 2020 in Lubbock.

The Walgreens at 602 Avenue Q will offer free drive-thru testing for COVID-19 (the novel coronavirus) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, even on weekends.

The only catch is that those wanting to be tested must schedule an appointment directly through Walgreens. A special web page has been set up to screen people before the COVID-19 test is approved.

From Walgreens:

Walgreens is offering no-cost, contactless COVID-19 testing at select locations in partnership with the PWNHealth provider network.*

Testing is at no cost to eligible individuals who meet criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and federal guidelines. At the testing locations, Walgreens pharmacy team oversees patients’ self-administration of the COVID-19 test.

Those eligible to be tested for COVID-19 will choose a location and a time. Once at the location, Walgreens says patients will be provided a nasal swab by a member of the Walgreens pharmacy team and instructed on how to self-administer the test from inside their vehicle. At this time, the store will not be allowing people to be tested outside their vehicles.

According to Walgreens, patients will receive an email or phone call with their results, though it could take four days or longer. Additionally, the company clarified that appointments are subject to weather conditions, and testing could be limited or delayed due to capacity issues.

An FAQ page has been set up to answer patients' additional questions.
