Councilman Christian To Host Listening Session & Street Bond Review

In November, voters in the City of Lubbock rejected a $174.5 million dollar bond election for streets in Lubbock. The rejection of the bond seemed to have caught members of the Lubbock Council by surprise. 54% of voters last November rejected the bond. Since then, members of the Lubbock City Council have been searching for answers and a way forward.

Members of the Lubbock City Council have come up with several ideas of why they think the bond election failed. Some have blamed lack of information provided to voters, while others blamed tribalism and territorialism for the bond failing. The most controversial part of the bond was $40 million dollars that was tied to Broadway and the bricks on Broadway.

The projects on that were on the bond could come up again in the future, but no one knows when that may happen.

Lubbock City Councilman Randy Christian is hoping to start getting feedback from citizens next week. On Wednesday, January 19th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Lubbock City Councilman Randy Christian will host a "Street Bond Review & Listening Session". According to a press release, the meeting will be inside City Council Chambers at Citizens Tower located at 1314 Avenue K. According to the press release, all citizens are invited and this will be a chance to share your thoughts on the bond that was defeated how the Lubbock City Council should move forward.

Councilman Randy Christian will host a street bond review and listening session next Wednesday evening. This will be an opportunity for citizens to come and share their thoughts on the recent street bond package and how the city should move forward with street projects. All citizens are invited to attend.

Councilman Christian called into The Chad Hasty Show with Matt Martin and implored citizens to show up and to get more involved in town hall meetings in the future.
