Have you ever thought about getting a group together to make your local park look better? If you have and you are part of a community organization or want to form an organization just for this, then you are going to be pretty happy with the new plans from the Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department.

Coming up in July the City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department will launch a new Adopt-A-Park program. The launch of the program coincides with National Parks and Recreation Month.

The Adopt-A-Park Program is being put into place according to the City of Lubbock, to give "community groups" an opportunity to help ensure neighborhood park and the facilities in those parks are clean and fun.

This doesn't mean though that community groups are expected to clean up the bathrooms and then go home. Lubbock Parks and Recreation wants adopters to have the chance of doing general and special projects according to a recent press release.

Park Adopters will have the opportunity to complete general and special projects within the parks system, such as mural painting, community garden beds, and much more with approval from the Lubbock Parks Board. Services will be completed on a quarterly basis, and the Parks and Recreation Department will provide the necessary supplies. After service quarters are completed, park adopters will receive recognition for their efforts in keeping the City of Lubbock parks system beautiful. If your group/organization is interested in participating or receiving more information, please visit mylubbock.us/adopt-a-park, or contact Cynthia Berlanga at Cberlanga@mylubbock.us or by calling 806-775-2669.

A lot of information about what organization can and can't do along with how to apply to Adopt-A-Park is located here.
