It looks like all Best Buy stores, including our Lubbock location at 2420 West Loop 289, will be closed for the first time in a long time on Thanksgiving Day due to COVID-19.

Best Buy join a growing list of big box stores who are usually open on Thanksgiving who've recently announced they'll be closed this year -- either due to COVID-19 crowd concerns, or to thank hardworking employees with some much-needed time off. So far, the list also includes Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, and Kohl's.

These stores are planning to be open for us on Black Friday, but their hours are still to be determined according to BlackFriday.com.

Getting a jump on Black Friday shopping by opening up with Thanksgiving hours started to become popular around 10 years ago. Some folks haven't been overly supportive of the trend, but it has caught on. So for those who've enjoyed it the early start, this will be disappointing news.

It certainly seems that this year, more than ever, we need to save money on our holiday shopping. It's great to see that there's some good news to go hand-in-hand with this announcement. Most of these retailers have a new strategy, and we can still look forward to seeing them roll out super holiday deals to accommodate our holiday shopping needs.

Since we can't get that extra early start on Thanksgiving, retailers are promising to kick off their big Black Friday prices earlier than ever. We will just have to be on our toes and watch closely for these special deals when they show up, sure to surprise us, and help us with our holiday shopping needs.
