BBQ Hall of Fame to Induct Lubbock Founder of Stubb’s BBQ
The BBQ Hall of Fame in Kansas City is honoring one of Lubbock’s legendary citizens. Christopher B. Stubblefield, the creator of Stubb’s Barbecue, will be inducted as part of the BBQ Hall of Fame’s 2019 class.
Stubblefield opened his first restaurant, Stubb’s BBQ, in Lubbock in 1968. He began plans to open another location in Austin, Texas but passed away in 1995 of heart failure. The new location opened in 1996 at 801 Red River in Austin. Shortly after his death, the original Lubbock restaurant was closed down.
