5 Way Overrated Things About Lubbock, Texas
Just because these things are listed as overrated doesn't mean they're not great.
Ohh, I'm about to step in it. I'm sure the trolls will say, "well...you're overrated!" So let me say that I am the first to agree with you. I'm the perfect example of something that is tops in Lubbock but would be swallowed up in a lot of other places.
The point isn't to heap the hate on any of these things (other than number 1). In fact, four of these things are pretty much accepted and universally loved and/or true, but are they what we'd call elevated? I'd kind of have to say no. Get ready for the controversy now!

The Chilton
What's up with people here and their salty lemon water? Something about it screams "drink for alcoholics" with its nothing but vodka, soda water, lemon, and salt recipe. It's like they're made just to temper the vodka taste enough to wash it down. Chiltons make rum & cokes feel like an upscale drink.

The Barbeque
Our barbecue here is pretty adequate. It's nothing special, but it's not elevated or anything to write home about. In fact, I have news for you: most barbecue isn't anything special. It's meat cooked over a fire, and that's pretty awesome, but if you think Lubbock's is better than anyone else's then you haven't tried enough of anyone else's. Am I talking out of my read? Not really. I interviewed Texas Monthly's barbecue expert and he said the exact same thing. Lubbock barbecue is great, but it's nothing special.

We're No Friendlier Than Anywhere Else
The last time I visited California I went to one of those places/neighborhoods that you're warned not to go to. Everybody there was awesome. I went to St. Louis this past year and everybody was wonderful. I recognize that East Coasters have a way about them that seems unfriendly, but that's just in the way they talk and not their attitude.

The Mall
We have a pretty great mall. It's nice and big and clean, and yeah, it's wonderful. The South Plains Mall was built in 1972. The architecture is very plain and it certainly isn't as big or airy as some of the malls built in the last 50 years. It's a fantastic space that really could use some reinvestment if it's going to continue to serve as the shopping center of West Texas.

Texas Tech Football
Texas Tech Football hasn't been fun since Kliff Kingsbury had the ball flying all over the place, and that was just an echo of the Mike Leach era. Even the Leach era got stale, and that's why we're not still in the Leach era. I'm hoping for the best out of the new bunch, but for me you have to have fun and wins.
P.S. PUH-LEEZE give me a reason to eat my words this season, Coach McGuire. I will be happy to be proven wrong.
