On Monday, September 13th, two Lubbock men were arrested after it's said they were racing on South Loop 289.

KAMC News reports that a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter noticed the two vehicles traveling in the eastbound lanes of the South Loop between Quaker Avenue and Slide Road at around 10:40 p.m. The vehicles were allegedly traveling at roughly 140 miles an hour.

The vehicles are said to have continued north and then west. An officer with the Lubbock Police Department entered the North Loop from I-27 right as the vehicles passed him. The officer noted that the vehicles were traveling at speeds over 100 miles an hour as he attempted to pull them over.

The officer was receiving constant updates on the vehicles positions from DPS as he made the attempt to catch up to them. At one point, the officer was said to have noticed the vehicles near Clovis Highway before exiting Slide Road.

Afterwards, the vehicles eventually pulled over, and when the officer walked up to them, he ordered them to turn the vehicles off and to throw their keys out the window.

Both drivers, Shaheen Alleheibat and Ethan Longhenry, were arrested at the scene and charged with racing on a highway.
