A UPS truck was in flames and black smoke was everywhere. It was pulled over on the side of the road right in front of me on Loop 289 just west of University Friday morning, just before 10 a.m.

Traffic was still moving, and as I drove past the fiery UPS truck, the driver was standing out in front on his phone. The flames had engulfed the front seats. Flames were also shooting from the roof, and the smoke was becoming dangerously thick.

By the time I circled back, emergency vehicles were arriving, and police were redirecting traffic. We were told by Lubbock Police Department Public Information Assistant Carson Glenewinkel that one fire truck was initially called out, and a request for a second unit soon followed.

I was so grateful to see that the driver appeared okay and clear of the danger. Thoughts and prayers for everyone involved in this incident. We will keep you updated as more information about this UPS truck fire, becomes available.
