The Houston Astros Sweep the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday

The Houston Astros completed the three game sweep of the Kansas City Royals behind rookie sensation George Springer who led the way in Houston's 9-3 victory on Wednesday afternoon.  Springer (pictured on the left) launched a first-inning two-run homer and reached base four times in the Astros series sweeping victory.  The rookie has now gone deep in five of his last six games, with six total home runs during that span. Springer's ninth homer of May set the franchise rookie record for home runs in a single month.

"He continues to swing a hot bat, and, again, what's impressive is that he's attacking the right pitches," Astros manager Bo Porter said.   Houston has now improved their record to 22-32 on the year which is ten games back of the division leading A's thanks to their recent success.  "Any time you go to three cities and end up 6-4 on a 10-day road trip, that's a good job, all the way around," said Porter.

Jarred Cosart was on the mound for Houston as he went five innings while giving up just one run on four hits and allowing only two walks to earn the win.  The Astros offense got to Kansas City's starter early and often as he lasted just four innings while allowing five earned runs on seven hits and walking five Houston hitters.  He was awarded the loss.

Houston will now turn their attention to the Baltimore Orioles as they make the trip back to Houston to host that series.  First pitch for the opener is set for Thursday at 7:10pm from Minute Maid Park in Houston.
