Texas Tech and Washington State Football Poised for a Big Turnaround in 2012 [POLL]
The 2011 season of Texas Tech Football is one of the more forgettable seasons in the past two decades of the programs history, but the Red Raiders are poised for a big turnaround. The college football website The Bleacher Report has chosen Tech to be one of ten teams to have a big turnaround in 2012. Mike Leach and his Washington State Cougars also made the list.
The Red Raiders finished 2011 at 5-7 with five consecutive losses and ending an 18-year streak of non-losing seasons. Texas Tech returns 20 starters, a third defensive coordinator in as many seasons, and a very non-conference schedule to jump start the Red Raiders into the Big 12 season. Tech welcomes Northwestern State and New Mexico to Lubbock while traveling to Texas State. In conference, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Texas, and Kansas come to Lubbock while the Red Raiders travel to Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and TCU. Tech and Baylor will play in Arlington during Thanksgiving weekend. Texas Tech looks to be 7-5 this next season.
Washington State returns 15 starters from last season's 4-8 campaign, but have Mike Leach as their new head coach after his two year hiatus from coaching. Leach, the former Texas Tech Head Coach from 2000-2009, has high expectations from fans in Pullman. The Cougars have Oregon at home and Stanford on the road, but avoid USC altogether this season with a manageable conference schedule. Six wins are possible for the Cougars this season.
