A Lubbock teenager has been arrested after reports say he attempted to take an officer's gun, and then the officer's taser.

Lubbock police officers responded to the 2700 block of 37th Street at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 18th, 2021 after reports of a disturbance. The responding officer noticed 19-year-old Zakaydrian Pringler outside of a residence, refusing to leave.

Pringler said that he was wanting some of his belongings from the inside of the house.

The officer told him to wait by the patrol vehicle, and when the officer heard Pringler yelling, he turned to find him walking away from the area, ignoring verbal commands. The officer went after Pringler and ordered him to place his hands on a nearby pickup truck so he could be detained, but he continued to refuse to comply.

KAMC News reports that the officer attempted to detain Pringler and noticed that he was attempting to take his gun. After a brief struggle, the officer struck Pringler, causing him to fall to the ground. The two then struggled on the ground, and the officer saw Pringler now reaching for his taser.

Another officer eventually arrived on scene and detained Pringler, who remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of taking a weapon from an officer, evading arrest and resisting arrest.
