Texas Sues Biden Over Teen Contraception
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the Biden administration over a federal program that provides teens (among others) with free birth control without parental consent.
The program is called Title X. It’s a Nixon-era program that provides confidential contraception to anyone, regardless of age, income or citizenship. Paxton says Title X defies a 2020 ruling involving a Texas father sued because he said Title X “violated his parental rights”. The 5th Circuit judge in that case ruled in favor of the father.
Paxton is suing because, he argues, Title X defies that court’s ruling. I’m not sure a judge in Amarillo establishes precedent for all time, but that’s the case AG Paxton is making.
In a statement, Paxton said, “By attempting to force Texas health providers to offer contraceptives…without parental consent, the Biden administration…proves they will do anything to implement their extremist agenda”.
We have a term for teenagers who want to use contraception but are afraid to talk to their parents about it: unwed mothers (and fathers). People throughout history have pushed an “abstinence only” agenda. And, throughout history, people still SOMEHOW get pregnant. It’s almost like there is some innate biological imperative that COMPELS people to want to have sex. Also, it seems like that biological imperative kicks into overdrive at the onset of sexual maturity, which doesn’t follow that rule about having to be eighteen to do it.
I’m not saying having an unplanned pregnancy is a good thing. But, people (even people under 18) are going to continue having sex, regardless of how many times you tell them “abstinence only”. If there is a minor who has the foresight to use contraception/protection, why would conservatives hate that? After all, it’s that kind of thing that leads to (GASP) abortions.
