Newcomers to Midland, Texas, may notice something as they enter the region for the first time. It's something that I noticed as well when I moved here in January 2025. So what is it? Well, I noticed the large amount of trash and debris on the sides of the road, oftentimes in large fields.

How did this happen?  Are citizens deliberately throwing trash and littering?  In large, that answer would be no.  What newcomers may not know is that the strong winds of the region often take trash and blow it into different parts of the city.  Usually, the fault of this is an act of god and not actual people throwing trash with no regard for the cleanliness of the city.

The city of Midland is stepping in to combat all the accumulated trash in the area, and they're asking for the help of the community.  The 2nd annual City-County Trash-Off and the city of Midland is highly encouraging the public's participation.  The main focus of the trash-off is to clean both sides of SH 191.  So come on out and help keep Midland clean!
