Even though it is still warm in Texas, there are signs of fall everywhere. The leaves on the trees are starting to fall and mornings are cooling off. Pumpkin spice everything is in full swing and the night seems to come quicker.

WHEN IS THE NEXT DAYLIGHT SAVINGS?

Now that the mornings are darker, we wonder when to turn our clocks back for daylight savings. Sunday, November 3 we will "fall back". You will gain an hour of sleep or an hour at the club, both activities are highly encouraged. Everyone likes to say don't forget to roll back your clock for daylight savings but when we had to change the clock back ourselves, I would always forget. Thank goodness my car and phone do it for me now.

WHY DAYLIGHT SAVINGS STARTED

Many believe daylight savings was put in place for farmers to get more time to work in the fields but this is false. Farmers are one of the groups who have lobbied to remove daylight savings time.

The United States adopted daylight savings to slow down the consumption of coal during World War One. We got the idea from European countries also at war.

WILL WE DO AWAY WITH DAYLIGHT SAVINGS SOON?

Even though there have been many attempts to stop daylight savings, it is here to stay. The Sunshine Protection Act was passed by the Senate in 2022, which would make it permanent. I can get on board with it because sunshine recharges my batteries while fall makes me want to hibernate until spring.
