Get Ready to Save on School Supplies During the Texas Sales Tax Free Weekend
Whether we like it or not, we are entering that time of year in Texas where it's time to get the kids ready for back to school.
Part of going back to school is back-to-school shopping. Parents have to purchase school supplies, clothes, backpacks, and shoes.
It's Very Expensive
Luckily, Texas is one of those states that understands that it is expensive for parents when the kids go back to school. It's more expensive for those families who have multiple children. To help combat the cost of back to school, Texas has a sales tax-free weekend every year before the kids go back to school.
History of the Texas Sales Tax-Free Weekend
Texas Sales Tax-Free Weekend was first established in Texas in 1999. It came to fruition after Senator Rodney Ellis proposed a bill for a sales tax break. He originally asked for the break to last a full week instead of just 3 days and the items to be under $100. Senate Bill 441 was signed into law by Governor George W. Bush in June 1999.
