Amarillo is known for having a lot of great restaurants both local and chain.   Many of the chain restaurants are beloved and visited by both residents of Amarillo and those travelers stopping to have a quick bite. One of those restaurants that have been a staple in Amarillo for decades and residents have been "eatin' good in the neighborhood".

Applebee's

There was a time when Applebee's was so popular that a second location was opened in Amarillo near Tascosa Road on Amarillo Blvd. However, that location didn't last. We are aware that our local Applebee's hasn't received the best reviews over the years, but that doesn't mean we want them to close.  They do have good food and some great drink specials.

Luckily, Applebee's OG location is still operating and folks are still dropping in and having a meal.  It's in a major shopping area so it is a good choice for a meal and a shopping break.

Unfortunately, the Applebee's company as a whole is struggling.  This isn't the first time.   In 2017 the company was struggling and planning on closing 135 Applebee's.

Here we are again, Applebee's is at risk.  Consumers are not choosing to eat at Applebee's.   Applebee's recently reported their Q2 numbers and sales declined 1.8%, after a large decline in Q1.

A lot of this comes from consumers who are not dining in like they used to, many opt for having their food delivered or they use takeout.  So expect a new shift in Applebee's marketing to include takeout deals and options among their dine-in promotions.

What Does This Mean for Amarillo's Applebee's?

If an overall rise in sales doesn't come in the next few quarters, we will see DineEquity the parent company of Applebee's start closing the underperforming restaurants.  This could leave us without an Applebee's, and we will no longer be "eatin' good in the neighborhood".
