With the three-day weekend upon us for Labor Day, there will be several events going on in Amarillo that you might be interested in checking out.

I know many people prefer to hang out and grill or smoke some meat, maybe invite some people over and just take it easy, but with so many events going on, why not spend a little time away from home?

CRIME STOPPERS CAR SHOW

The 16th edition of the car show will take place on Saturday at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex from 10 am to 4 pm and will show off some absolutely amazing rides. There will be newer cars, classic cars, and everything in between for you to check out.

The best part is that it won't break the bank for you and the entire family to go. General admission is only $5 and kids 10 and under are getting in for free. There will be door prizes, vendors, and a silent auction amongst other things.

AMARILLO LABOR DAY PICNIC

In conjunction with the laid-back idea of Labor Day weekend, the West Texas Building and Construction Trades Council and the Amarillo Central Labor Council are hosting a picnic for everyone to attend on Monday, September 2. The event will happen at Memorial Park from 11 am to 3 pm.

The picnic will feature some guest speakers, music, and more, as well as things such as bounce houses, dunk tanks, and other games. Of course, no picnic is worth going to if there isn't food, right? Complimentary hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for you to complete the experience.

LABOR DAY CAMP AT DHDC

Don Harrington Discovery Center loves to do some great events when holidays come around, and Labor Day is no different. On Monday, they'll have their Labor Day Camp for the kiddos to enjoy from 9 am to 4 pm for kiddos aged 3 years old through 4th grade.

They'll get a chance to learn all sorts of fun science through demos, different experiments, and some hands-on learning with instructors. They will have half-day and full-day options available and you can lock down your spot by going to their website.

WONDERLAND

Ok, are they doing anything special wrapped around Labor Day? Not necessarily, but it IS your last chance to hop on the rides for the season. This is the final weekend Wonderland will be open, so if you've been delaying getting there for a little bit of fun and a few screams, this is your last chance to do it.

AMARILLO CITY POOLS

Much in the same vein as Wonderland, this is the final weekend the city pools will be open this year. If you've got an itch to go down the slides at Thompson Park, or just take it easy at one of the other pools around the city, take advantage of it this weekend. Otherwise, you'll be hunting for an open indoor pool to get wet in.
