Two Fires In The Past Few Days In Amarillo Cause Serious Damage
With all the snow we received in Amarillo, that last think you'd think about is a fire popping up. Dry conditions are typically what we think of when it comes to that, but that hasn't been the case in Amarillo.
Amarillo Fire Department has been busy lately as not one, but two businesses saw fires break out at their places over the course of the last few days.
The first one happened in the late stages of Thursday morning as a self-storage facility at 1301 South Lincoln Street caught fire on Jan 9th, the day it dumped loads of snow on us.
Firefighters arrived at the scene seeing smoke from three different units at the facility comprised of storage units made from old semi-trailers.
They were able to get it under control relatively quickly, 26 minutes to be exact, and treated one victim on the scene for burns. They were later transported to a local hospital.
The total estimated cost of damage at the storage facility was around $15,000.
Then on Saturday, Jan. 11, the Family Dollar store at 831 Martin Road had to make a call to firefighters as their store caught fire.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found smoke visible from the front door and got to work on extinguishing the blaze. They were able to locate the root of the fire pretty quickly and attacked the front corner of the store.
No injuries were reported at this blaze, and no other businesses sustained any damages. However, the Family Dollar will remain closed for the time being after absorbing $20,000 in damages.
