Texas Tech’s Historic Season Comes To An End In The Orange Bowl
It wasn't the game the players, fans, or commentators thought it was going to be. For over a week we had been hearing about the two high powered offenses of Oregon and Texas Tech set to clash in the Orange Bowl. We had heard about the Texas Tech defense and the excitement building towards Texas Tech. Some even had Texas Tech going the whole way.
But on Thursday, Red Raider fans had little to cheer about.
Texas Tech Falls to Oregon in the Orange Bowl
Thursday's Orange Bowl game became a defensive battle, and one that the Texas Tech defense should be proud of. The game was actually closer than the final score shows as Oregon scored their final touchdown in the last few seconds of the game.
Throughout the game, the defense made the stops necessary to keep Texas Tech in the game. The score at halftime was just 6-0 Oregon and by the end of the 3rd, Texas Tech was still only down 13-0. But the offense could not get anything going. Behren Morton threw for just 137 yards.
Oregon defeated Texas Tech 23-0 in the Orange Bowl. Oregon will move on to play the #1 ranked team in the nation, the Indiana Hoosiers in the Peach Bowl on Friday, January 9th.
A Heartbreaking Loss, A Historic Season
While the loss was heartbreaking for fans and players, it shouldn't be lost on anyone that this was a historic year for Texas Tech Football. Texas Tech won 12 games and its first Big 12 title. Many believe Texas Tech will continue to improve next season as they look to defend their Big 12 title and get back into the College Football Playoff.
