Southeast Texas, Including Houston, Braces For Historic Winter Storm
All of Texas is experiencing bitter cold temperatures and even colder wind chills over the next couple of days, but Central and Southeast Texans are bracing for bitter cold temperatures along with ice and snow. And in the Houston area, residents are preparing for what could be a historic winter storm.
According to FOX 7, much of Central Texas, including Austin and San Antonio are preparing for snow and sleet. A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from Monday at 6pm to Tuesday at 6pm. According to FOX 7, snow and sleet could accumulate up to two inches and ice build up is possible as well. Regions to the east are expected to get higher amounts of ice.
In Houston, Mayor John Whitmire said the city is planning for a "very serious and dangerous weather episode" according to ABC 13.com. Snow and ice aren't exactly what residents are used to along the Gulf Coast, but the winter storm could be historic for the area. Houston officials are urging residents to stay off the roads as the winter storm hits. Officials in Houston announced that the airports in the city would be closing at midnight on Tuesday. That means no flights in or out of Houston on Tuesday, January 21. Both Hobby and Bush are expected to reopen on Wednesday, but expect travel delays.
Temperatures and conditions are expected to rebound on Wednesday and throughout the week.
