Red Robin, a popular burger chain around the nation, has announced that it plans to close up to 70 underperforming locations over the next several years as the chain attempts to pay back debt.

According to USA Today, Red Robin closed one location last year after the lease expired, but now company officials are looking at expanding the list of stores closing. USA Today reports that Red Robin is ""evaluating alternatives for approximately 70 underperforming restaurant locations, including closure upon expiration of the current lease term".

The stores will not be closing all at once though. In 2025, the company expects to close 10-15 restaurant locations as leases expire. The CEO, G.J. Hart told USA Today that most locations will close over the next five years as leases expire.

Will Any Texas Locations of Red Robin Close?

Texas has 27 Red Robin locations according to Red Robin's website. So far, Red Robin has not announced which locations are underperforming or in danger of closing.

There is no way to tell as of right now if any Texas locations will close in the next 5 years. In the food service industry, a lot can happen in five years.

According to USA Today, company officials say the closures will strengthen Red Robin's portfolio and free up money.

The anticipated closures will help strengthen Red Robin's portfolio and free up money that can be reinvested into the company, or used to repay debt, Hart said. The chain is also exploring other lanes to speed up this process, which the CEO said he and the company will provide updates on soon.

Red Robin currently has over 300 locations nationwide.
