1 Officer Dead, 2 Injured in Dallas Surprise-Attack Shooting
A Dallas police officer was found shot in his cruiser when backup arrived following an "officer in distress" call just minutes prior.
Details on the Attack
Late in the evening on August 29th in Oak Cliff, Dallas PD dispatched officers in response to an "officer in distress" call. When backup approached the scene, they saw the officer who made the call, shot, in his patrol vehicle. Soon after, the backup cops exchanged gunfire with the culprit.
Citizens in the nearby neighborhood reported hearing about a dozen gunshots fired off around 10:10 pm.
Two backup officers were hit in the volley of bullets, and the gunman fled in his vehicle. The chase led officers down Interstate 35E near Lewisville before the gunman exited his car and began firing at the chasing officers once more before being killed by return fire.
Lewisville PD closed the portion of the highway where the gun fight took place for an undisclosed about of time.
The three Dallas police officers who were shot were immediately taken to two separate hospitals. One officer was in critical condition while another died from the gunshot wounds. NBC Dallas took to X shortly after the events.
Dallas announced that city facilities will be flying their flags at half-staff in honor of the fallen officer.
