Early Tuesday morning, onlookers in Odessa were horrified to see a small aircraft struggling to gain altitude after takeoff, clipping power lines before crashing in an alleyway.

Details of the Plane Crash

The Cessna 550 Citation corporate jet crashed around 7 am into a cluster of buildings. One business in particular, Dewey's, received heavy damage from the small aircraft.

The City of Odessa provided further details in a Facebook post:

Impact of the Crash

There were two people on the plane who both lost their lives when the plane crashed shortly after takeoff. The identities of each of the deceased was not released, but some speculate that the pilot was TechCorr CEO Joseph Summa.

This is because the plane was registered to Summa, and he happened to be licensed to fly both commercial and private flights.

At one point, according to the electricity company Oncor, nearly 400 of their customers were without power for a portion of time following the accident. The plane took out multiple power lines in its descent just before the crash.

Another victim of the tragedy, a woman who's mobile home was damaged and set on fire, was taken to the hospital for care.

Emergency Response

The Red Cross was able to set up a temporary shelter for those who lost their homes during the fatal crash at a local church.

Odessa Fire Rescue was also quick to respond, dousing the fires as soon as they were spotted. Luckily, thanks to the efforts of all who helped, there were no other injuries that took place.
