Spring is here and for many that means the itch to fish has returned, if it ever left, and while many will be traveling to rivers and lakes to fish, other's can travel to their neighborhood lake to see what they catch.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will soon be stocking 18 'Neighborhood Fishin' Lakes' across Texas. These lakes will be stocked with thousands of catfish beginning the week of April 14.

So where are these lakes that will get stocked with catfish? According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, five are in Dallas-Fort Worth, four are in the Houston, two neighborhood lakes each in Austin and San Antonio, and one each in Amarillo, College Station, San Angelo, Waco, and Wichita Falls.

According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, these lakes are safe with ample parking and help bring fishing to more people. Each lake will get channel catfish every two weeks.

“Neighborhood Fishin’ lakes are conveniently located in urban and suburban areas so that Texans don’t have to travel far to have a great experience,” said Craig Bonds, director of Inland Fisheries. “Catfish are fun and easy to catch for anglers of all ages and experience levels. If you’ve never fished before, these are the perfect places to get started. If you are an experienced angler, these are the perfect places to introduce fishing to a friend or family member.”

Each lake will receive channel catfish every two weeks through the end of October — with a brief pause during the heat of August — to ensure there are plenty of angling opportunities for everyone throughout the spring, summer and early fall.

Neighborhood Fishin’ lakes are located in city and county parks with ample parking, restrooms, lighting and other recreational amenities, in addition to fishing.

So if you live in one of the cities being stocked, or just visiting, get ready to do a little fishing this Spring and Summer.
