Another Long Running Business In Lubbock Is Closing After 47 Years
Another local business that has been around for a long time in Lubbock is closing soon. This past Friday, employees learned the news and word started to spread, and sadly it's true. Boot City is going out of business and closing it's 19th Street location in Lubbock soon.
Boot City has been a staple of Lubbock for a long time. Known for it's boots and Western Wear along with being a mom and pop store where long time customers have known the family behind Boot City for years.
Boot City las a long history in West Texas. Billy Joe Wood began his dream of being in the boot business in 1965 in Colorado City, Texas. In 1978, the second store was opened, in Lubbock. And while the location in Colorado City will remain open, Boot City in Lubbock is closing after 47 years.
Boot City is located at 6645 W. 19th Street in Lubbock.
I went by Boot City on Monday and sales on many items in store had already started. This included special pricing on boots and hats.
When Will Boot City Officially Close in Lubbock?
Employees on Monday weren't sure when the final day was going to be. Boot City still had a lot of inventory left and it seems like they want to sell as much of that before closing. No word either on why Boot City is closing.
Boot City, Family Owned and Operated
One thing that so many customers enjoyed about Boot City was that it was truly family owned and operated. Generations of family members have worked at and run Boot City and the employees of Boot City love the store as much as the family has.
Lubbock has already seen a number of businesses close this year. Including some that have been here a while.

We wish the family and employees nothing but the best moving on. And who knows, maybe another generation of the family will decide in the future to get back into the business.
