As was predicted last week, it's time to break out the gloves and puffy winter jackets. A winter storm is heading for Lubbock and the surrounding areas and conditions could start turning bad beginning Monday night with travel disruptions possible on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service as of Sunday, said snowfall in Lubbock could be anywhere between 2 to 4 inches. Some places will probably see less snow than that while others could possibly see more. The National Weather Services sent a message via Twitter that portions of the Texas Panhandle, Rolling Plains, and South Plains are under a Winter Storm Watch.

KAMC reports that in addition to the snow, winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Monday's high is expected to be in the low 50's before the front begins to move in. Tuesday's high is expected to be in the mid 30's. Lubbock will pop back into the low 40's on Wednesday.

While we aren't expecting a blizzard in Lubbock, snowfall and winter storms are notorious for being hard to predict. While it appears as though the heaviest snow could stay north of Lubbock, there are many things that could change that and Lubbock could see more snow than what was predicted.

The best course of action is to be prepared for anything, and one way of doing that is staying with KFYO on air and on the KFYO app, and of course of here on the website. KFYO will let you know of any school or municipal closures.
