If you love to cook or eat good food this is the event for you.

I went for the first time last year to the Raider Red Meats Barbecue & Ribeye Championship and had so much fun. You learn a lot from the cooks and get to see some really neat dishes. Plus if you love meat, this is the place to be because every year they did tomahawk ribeyes.

This event is the Texas State Championship and is open to anyone around the nation. There tentatively be a BBQ demo that is open to the public on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

This is such an amazing event because all proceeds go to fund scholarships for the Davis College of Ag. Raider Red Meats has funded scholarships for Texas Tech students since 1982. This event is consistently the largest contributor to the scholarship funding.

The competition will take place in the Animal & Food Sciences building parking lot (Commuter West) on the Texas Tech campus. The team entry fee is $275 and cooks are invited to compete in a steak contest and four meat divisions: chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.

Red Raider Meats will host the 13th annual BBQ & Ribeye Championship Cookoff on Saturday, August 17th, at 9:30 a.m. at the Animal and Food Science Livestock Arena.

All ages are welcome to compete. This is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society. To learn more about the competition, check it out here.
