Lubbock Families Benefit From Texas’s Low Senior Care Costs
If you've got aging parents, grandparents, or you're planning ahead for yourself (hey, it sneaks up faster than we think), here's some good news straight from the heart of the Lone Star State: Texas has been named the second most affordable state in the U.S. for senior care—and that includes right here in Lubbock.
The Study
According to a brand-new study from Caring.com, Texas scored an impressive 8.41 out of 10 on the "Senior Care Affordability" scale. Only Mississippi ranked higher.
So, what does that mean for Lubbock-area families? Well, it means that Texas—where nearly 13% of residents are over 65—is doing a better job than most states at keeping costs down for things like assisted living, home care, and nursing home stays. In fact, Texas boasts the lowest median cost for a private nursing home room in the entire country at just over $85,000 per year. For comparison, that same level of care costs more than double in states like New York or California.
