
Measles Alert In Lubbock: Unvaccinated Child Tests Positive At Local School
Lubbock Public Health has confirmed that a school-aged child has tested positive for measles after being treated at a local healthcare facility. The child was not vaccinated, and health officials are now working with the South Plains Public Health District and the healthcare facility to assess potential exposure.
At this time, there are no known public exposure sites outside the healthcare facility. However, those who may have been exposed will be contacted directly by the facility.
Symptoms of Measles
Symptoms can appear 7 to 21 days after exposure and include:
✔ High fever
✔ Cough
✔ Runny nose
✔ Red, watery eyes
✔ Tiny white spots inside the mouth (Koplik spots)
✔ Rash starting at the hairline/face and spreading to the rest of the body
How Measles Spreads
Measles is highly contagious, spreading through coughing, sneezing, and contaminated surfaces. The virus can linger in the air for up to two hours and is contagious four days before and after the rash appears.
What to Do If You May Have Been Exposed
➡ Stay isolated to prevent spreading the virus
➡ Contact your doctor for testing (do not show up unannounced!!!)
➡ Monitor for symptoms for the next 7-21 days
