Partner of Houston Pastor Slammed Over Camp Mystic Post
Yikes, a senior minister out of Houston, Texas, is doing major damage control after his partner’s cruel TikTok video about Camp Mystic flood victims went viral and not in a good way.
Rev. Dr. Colin Bossen, senior minister at First Unitarian Universalist Church, is publicly disavowing comments made by his girlfriend, Sade Perkins, who posted a now-viral video slamming the all-girls Christian camp where 27 children and counselors died over the Fourth of July weekend.
Perkins, a former Houston mayoral appointee, accused the camp of being “white-only” and claimed the media’s response would’ve been far different if the victims weren’t white.
“They don’t even have a token Asian. They don’t have a token Black person,” she said in one clip. “If you ain’t white, you ain’t right, you ain’t gettin’ in.”
She didn’t stop there. “If this were a group of Hispanic girls, no one would give a f**k,” Perkins said. “All these white people… would be saying things like ‘they need to be deported.’”
Needless to say, the comments did not land well, especially during a time when families have been shattered and are grieving.
Bossen quickly issued a statement: "I want to be clear that I disavow her comments," he said, adding that he’s “deeply sorry for the harm that this may have caused to the Camp Mystic families.”
Perkins doesn’t hold a position at the church, but the personal connection was strong enough that even church leadership jumped in. Board president Joan Waddel addressed the issue, saying, "Her comments contradict the core values of our church, and we are horrified to be associated with these comments."
Mayor John Whitmire confirmed Perkins won’t be reappointed to any city boards and called her remarks “deeply inappropriate.” Bossen says he’s praying for those impacted and committed to helping repair the damage.
