Shocking News, Texas Electric Grid Graded Not the Worst in America
If you asked anyone which electric grid you would expect to fail, most people would say Texas. Turns out, someone is worse off than us.
In case you did not know, America is broken down into ten different electric grids. What makes us in Texas so unique, our grid is completely independent. If one of the other grids fails, they can get support from one of the other grids in an emergency. The Texas/ERCOT grid has been criticized since the freeze of 2021 where people lost power for days.
Ever since 2021 people have asked any time freezing temperatures hit Texas, "Is the grid ready for this storm?" I would have bet any amount of money that Texas had the worst electric grid in the country. Turns out, someone is worse off than us.
Electric Grids Grade for America 2025
The organization, Americans for a Clean Energy Grid released their results of their 2025 survey. It's 82 pages in length if you want to check out the full thing. Not shocking, Texas/ERCOT did not get a good grade in their survey. Surprisingly, someone is worse off than us.
States on the Southeast Grid
- Alabama
- Florida
- Georgia
- Mississippi
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- Kentucky
- Missouri
- Iowa
Any of the states mentioned above, your entire grid or a portion of it falls into this failing grade. What's crazy is that the Southeast grid got a F grade in literally every single category. At least the Texas grid got a B grade for engagement for planned upgrades in the future. If you want to check out the full report, it's available here.
