Applying for jobs can be a very arduous process, especially in 2025.

Job seekers are confronted with a sea of listings- many of which are not legitimate postings. Is that company hiring, or is it posturing, or worse, a straight-up scam?

Then you have to navigate to get your application and resume just right so they can survive past keyword filters and hopefully get seen by human eyes. "Pounding the pavement" these days is more akin to a full-time clerical job just to apply.

Now imagine you've finally made it through all those hoops- got interviewed (sometimes more than once) and are now finally at your new career- and the company is terrible. It's every professional's nightmare.

But how can that be avoided?

You could narrow your application process to companies that are known as good employers. We tend to learn this information word-of-mouth, for example, my sister-in-law heads a department at a hospital and loves her experience there. Based on that information, if I was seeking a healthcare position, I would apply there.

But what if you've tried all those suggestions and still haven't been hired anywhere? Then, you should look to the Forbes Best Employers By State List. The list is extensive and based on survey data gathered from current employees of these companies.

The only caveat for the list is that the company must have 500 or more employees. The companies paid no fees to participate.

Survey participants were asked how likely they were to recommend their employer on a scale of zero to 10. Respondents were also asked to evaluate employers they’d worked for within the past two years, and organizations they knew within their industry or through friends or family who worked there.

Results can be filtered by state, and the list is quite long for Texas (that's a good thing!). To get you started, here are the Top 11 on the Forbes list, with a little information about each company, and most importantly, where to apply.
