There’s something gnawing at me, but I don’t want to really throw gasoline on what may be just a small fire.

I am bothered as a lot of you are about people trying to ban books or ban teaching certain things. Personally, I think too many of us are putting too much time into fighting these things. Instead, let’s look at these things from a very raw perspective.

It’s your responsibility to raise your children and no one else's. There’s nothing that says you can’t be your get a banned book or have them watch videos of the true history of America. You can keep them at home and let them dress any way they want, and identify any way they want. You have this power, and at some point, you need to take it back and spend a little less time worrying about what the state wants you to do.

I look at this simply. The world will always need leaders. If your kid knows more, they will lead. If your kid understands more, they will be much happier in life. Sure, it’s a shame that you also want this for, but can’t provide it for, other kids, but as the old saying goes, “you can beat a cat with a loaf of bread, but they still won’t make you a sandwich” (meaning, some are just unteachable).

Some of you are concerned with your children being socialized and I really don’t know why. You wouldn’t want your kids hanging out with kids on drugs, so why do you care they’re hanging out with kids that are hooked on stupid? Start a peer group with other homeschooled kids, or figure out some after-hours activities.

I’m not saying you should give up the fight for better schools and better opportunities. I am saying that maybe instead of beating your head against the wall some of your time may be better spent taking care of these things at home, or even with a network of parents who are also trying to raise well-rounded children.
