A family has been left financially devastated after at least four brazen thieves stole $600,000 worth of jewelry in a brazen "smash and grab" robbery, according to Dallas Express-News.

The family-run business, Joyeria Princesa, located inside El Rancho Supermercado in East Dallas suffered a massive loss on camera.

Angel Cuenca (pictured below), the business owner's son, can only stand there helplessly as his mother's years of hard work get smashed away with a hammer.

Sadly, the jewelry was uninsured so the family must take the full brunt of the loss.

Angel was helping his mother on December 29th when this attack happened- at 4:40 p.m. This robbery literally happened on camera, in public, during daylight.

He said his mother was in the restroom when the robbery began. In the footage, she can be heard crying and screaming as she rushes back to the robbery scene.

Angel felt that the robbery was premeditated and that the store had been "cased" as the thieves targeted the most expensive jewelry.

Angel's mother began the business with a $3000 loan, working tirelessly to build the business. Angel told WFAA, “When we got home, she was still crying for the rest of the night.”

No arrests have been made, and Dallas Police encourage anyone with more information to contact the department.

Are Smash And Grab Robberies Becoming More Common?

Smash-and-grab robberies, flash mob robberies and ram-raiding are all organized retail crime and are, "part of a larger trend that’s causing significant damage to businesses and communities across the country," according to Deep Sentinel, a security company.

Flash mob robberies use a large amount of people to overwhelm a store, whereas a ram-raid uses a vehicle to smash into a business.

The repercussions of smash-and-grab robberies extend far beyond the immediate loss of inventory. According to recent statistics, these crimes cost businesses billions of dollars each year in property damage, stolen goods, and lost revenue.

In 2023, Target closed nine locations that experienced organized retail theft.

We cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance.

Target had attempted several security strategies at these stores before making the decision to close them permanently. And if a huge company like Target couldn't keep those stores open, it really makes you worry about the fate of "the little guy" with criminals as brazen as these.
