I should disclose my deep love of small community events from the offset. I find them outrageously charming and endearing.

For instance, if you know me personally, you've probably had to endure my obsession with the Slaton Banana Pudding Fest, which celebrates the world's most perfect dessert, and the historic Slaton Bakery.

This year I'm hoping to also attend Plainview's Red, White & Moo Freedom Parade & Milk Fest, which will be held on Thursday, July 4th. Of course, Lubbock has the massive and well-attended 4th on Broadway event, but who says you couldn't swing both?

Celebrating the 4th of July holiday, this event will be held at the Courthouse Lawn in Downtown Plainview. The parade route, "will begin at the Railroad Depot, head south down Ash Street, and turn east at 6th Street & Ash Street ending at Fire Station #1," at 10 a.m., as per a press release sent by the City of Plainview.

In addition to the parade, there will be music, bouncy houses, a mobile dairy classroom, a petting zoo, face painting, foam bubbles, food trucks and, to celebrate the ranching/ dairy culture of this area, free ice cream, milk, and cheese.

Free cheese?!? That's an activity I'd like to participate in.

This event has been in Plainview for a decade and is supported by area dairies. Again, I find it so charming and whimsical that I could explode.

The surrounding communities of Lubbock are truly a blessing to this area- allowing us to participate in a not bygone era of small towns that are all unique and special. From banana pudding to cheese (and even chicken fried steak) there's plenty of fun to be had around and outside of Lubbock.
