A lucky Lamesa resident won a Loteria scratch-off grand prize worth $1 million dollars, according to a press release from Texas Lottery®.

The Million Dollar Loteria ticket ($20 retail) was purchased at the Yesway on Seminole Road and the winner (probably quite wisely) has chosen to remain anonymous. I wonder if there will be signs.

The scratch-off is themed after the traditional Mexican game of Loteria, which consists of 54 very visually appealing cards that begin with a rooster and end with a frog. I know they are el gallo and la rana because pictures make a great literacy tool. My favorite is el Bailador though, that guy has style.

This marks the 4th of 8 possible grand prizes for this particular game.

FYI- lottery winnings over $5000 are subject to 24% tax withholding and depending on this person's income, they may owe more than that in taxes. Whomp whomp.

Just for fun, I looked up the most expensive house in Lamesa (because why go to the trouble of moving to another town?) It's formerly... The Fertilizer Place? Okay, go ahead and move. No shade to Lamesa, though, you are my favorite place to stop on the way to Austin.

The Texas Lottery has generated billions of dollars in revenue for the State of Texas, including over $30 billion for Texas schools. Nearly $80 billion dollars of prizes have been handed out to Texans since 1997.

If YOU are the big winner, I want to congratulate you on your exciting win!
