Lubbock’s Secret Cinema Is Bringing Back The Mystery Movie Experience

Who doesn’t love a mystery? In this case, the mystery is the movie — which may actually be a mystery movie…but now I’m getting ahead of myself.

Premiere Cinemas in Lubbock is offering up not one, but two mystery movie nights as part of its “Secret Cinema” series. One takes place tonight, and another rolls around next Monday night — both with a pretty sweet deal attached.

Tonight’s mystery film is only described as an “R-rated action flick,” while next Monday’s selection is labeled a “Horror Comedy.” That’s it. No title. No trailer. No giant spoiler-filled marketing campaign. Just show up and take the ride. Even better, you’ll get to see a first-run, never-before-seen movie for only six bucks. On top of that, Premiere is tossing in a free regular popcorn when you buy a drink, which honestly makes this one of the better entertainment deals around right now.

There’s something weirdly exciting about not knowing exactly what you’re about to watch. These days, most movies are practically spoiled by the time the second trailer drops. You know the plot, the twist, half the jokes, and which scenes are going viral online before you ever sit down in the theater.

This “Secret Cinema” idea throws all of that out the window.

And honestly? That’s kind of how we used to do it. You’d see a cool poster, maybe hear a friend mention a movie, and then you’d just take a chance. Sometimes you discovered something amazing. Sometimes you discovered absolute nonsense. Either way, it was fun.
