The Town

There's just no denying it, Lubbock is a very male-oriented town. I guess we could start by saying that Lubbock is dominated by males sports, male preachers, and male business owners. The ladies have had some inroads in politics, but even that area is still male dominant. All of that is just a cursory look at the city from someone who lives here, we're about to dig into some facts that are much uglier than anything I just mentioned.

The Survey

The fact that Lubbock came in as the 9th worst city for women is made worse by the fact that 182 cities were in the survey. That's correct, Lubbock came in at #172, making it a bottom-dweller in this survey. So what's so bad about being a woman in Lubbock? Pretty much everything is the answer. It's just tough to be female in the Hub City and according to Wallethub.

The Fails

Wallethub's two main criteria were "Women's Economic & Social Well-Being" and "Women's Healthcare & Safety". Making up those categories were various metrics that Lubbock failed miserably in. For instance, Lubbock is #157 for "Women's Life Expectancy At Birth", and #160 for "Women's Owned Businesses". Lubbock also did poorly in "Women's Median Earnings" and "Women's Uninsured Rate".

Other Winners & Losers

Taking a look at the rest of the survey, the absolute bottom three were Brownsville, Texas, Gulfport, Mississippi, and Jackson, Mississippi. If you're a woman looking to improve your life, you might enough one of the top three cities, Columbia, Maryland, Fremont, California, or Huntington Beach, California.
