Little Red Nursery’s New Greenhouse Grand Opening April 1st In Lubbock

Lubbock's Little Red Nursery has been a heritage business here in Lubbock for decades. Located at 4006 34th, it has been a beautiful oasis of expertly grown and cared-for plants. I've gone in just for the lovely green and petrichor smell, but of course, walked out with a plant or two of my own to love.

Now, this Lubbock staple is expanding in a major way. Little Red Nursery is opening a second location, which is a very large greenhouse at 4415 Woodrow Road, near Cooper High School. According to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, this positioning was purposeful, as proprietors Anna Johnson wants her business, "[to] offer more learning opportunities to Lubbock Cooper schools, and work-study opportunities with the Texas Tech Horticulture Department." Clearly, Little Red Nursery has been and will continue to be a big part of our community.

After over a year of planning and building, Little Red Nursery's Greenhouse will celebrate their Grand Opening Saturday, April 1st, with food, a guest speaker, giveaways, and more. I'll be out there from 1 to 3 p.m. with gift card giveaways as well. It'll also be a lovely opportunity to view (and smell!) the new greenhouse, which has a focus on plants that do well here in Lubbock.

Little Red Nursery goes far beyond the retail sale of plants, in fact, they offer expertly planned and planted Xeriscapes, which is something I believe in deeply for this area. Xeriscapes use little to no extra water to stay healthy in our climate. I find them ruggedly, yet exquisitely beautiful. Here's an example of a xeric container garden, but you can absolutely plant one directly with trees, grasses, shrubs, succulents, indigenous flowers, and even medicinally or culinarily useful herbs.

Little Red Nursery also offers a variety of other services like traditional landscaping, pergola installation, water features, and more.

It is absolutely wonderful to see a heritage local business not only survive but thrive. Congratulations to Little Red Nursery!
