VAN ZANDT COUNTY, Texas - Authorities across the state have declared a manhunt for capital murder suspect, Trevor McEuen, who removed his ankle monitor and skipped court yesterday.

McEuen allegedly shot and killed his neighbor in 2023, and his trial for four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, murder, and capital murder was set to begin Monday.

What happened?

Charges stem from an incident in May of 2023 in Kaufman County. Police responded to a shooting and found 35-year-old Aaron Martinez in a truck, parked outside of his home, deceased from gunshot wounds.

Cops saw McEuen driving away from Martinez's home and chased him until he stopped. He then refused to get out of his truck and engaged in a standoff with police. SWAT eventually took him into custody.

How you can help:

Police urge residents to call 911 if they see McEuen or have any information on his whereabouts. It has also been advised that you do not attempt to apprehend him yourself. Let the professionals handle it.

My two cents:

Why was a murderer allowed to hang out at home with an ankle monitor? It seems like we make it too easy for bad guys to get away. It's very possible that this situation could have been prevented. Not good. Hopefully, he will be caught soon.
