Here at our studios, we are pretty obsessed with Joel's Restaurant (3116 Amherst St). Even though it's across town from us, it's our most requested to cater our special lunches and meetings. Why? Because we can all agree on it any day of the week. The only problem is that no matter how much salsa we order, someone here eats more than their fair share and there isn't enough to go around.

Okay, I admit it, "someone" is me.

We also love Joel's for another reason. They are constantly giving back to the community. Joel's is a neighborhood restaurant, and they do all kinds of neighborhood events, like Easter egg hunts at the nearby Maggie Trejo Center. This year, they are doing something special for Christmas as well.

Joel's is teaming up with Lost N Da Sauce Wingz and Texas Technique BBQ to collect toy donations for children in need. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at Joel's during open hours. Folks who donated will be entered into a drawing for a free brisket or chicken wing tray.

Joel's is open Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturdays 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Sundays 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

If you feel called to donate a toy to a needy child this year, this may be a great opportunity for you to do so. And since you're doing a good thing, you might as well treat yourself to a breakfast burrito or an enchilada plate while you there. You deserve it.
