Do You Know What Your Limit Is For Catching Sharks In Texas?
As an inhabitant of one of the (a-hem) dryer parts of the Lone Star State, it seems ridiculous to talk about shark fishing here.
Cowboy Sharks
The fact is, Texas has over 3,300 miles of coastline allowing fishermen a lot of choices in where they want to wet their hooks. Of course, this includes many opportunities to sailing out for some deep-sea fishing. This means, that Texans can hook just about anything out there, including sharks.
Know Your Sharks
Not all sharks are legal, and many have size limitations. We should really start with the fact that you have to really know your sharks if you plan on keeping one. You can start with one basic rule, if you don't know what it is, throw it back. Another good rule is, no sharks under two-feet are ever allowed. That's just the start of the rules. For instance if you hook a hammerhead, you can't keep it unless it is at least 99 inches long. You really have to have an exhaustive knowledge of sharks if you want to fish legally.
The Big Answer
The answer to the question that brought you here is, you may have one shark at day, and a maximum of two sharks in your possession at any time. That may not seem like a lot, but let's not forget, you can only keep the bigger fish, so any more than that might be a little greedy. The ocean has balance just like other forms of nature and overfishing sharks could have consequences too.
