Depending on the species, sharks fall into two categories for me: extremely cute or very cool/ terrifying. Both types exist in Texas waters.

Which species are you most likely to encounter if you visit the Texas Coast? And are they mostly harmless or can they be deadly?

The most dangerous shark, and probably also the most recognizable is the Great White shark. They do occasionally appear in Texas waters, but the odds of you seeing one of these large sharks are very slim.

Another of the most dangerous shark species is the Bull Shark. They are present in Texas coastal waters and are amazing creatures, as they can thrive in both salt and fresh waters.

However, many shark species are nearly harmless and certainly not lethal to humans. And any shark attack is exceedingly rare- you are more likely to be hit by lightning. \

Here's a look at the most common shark species in Texas coastal waters- from the awe-inspiring bull shark to little guys and even some sharks that make for great seafood.
