'Lights For Lions' Starts Friday, November 1

Starting Friday, November 1, the Little Rock Zoo will begin collecting Holiday lights and extension cords to raise awareness and funds to save wild African lions.

The beauty and strength of the Little Rock Zoo's resident African lions — Amboseli, Saphira, and Inara — remind us just how majestic these creatures are. Now, you can support their wild counterparts by donating old string lights and extension cords to the Zoo’s “Lights for Lions” recycling initiative.

From November 1, 2024, through January 31, 2025, simply drop off any used string lights or extension cords (no matter the condition) in the collection box near the Zoo's front gate—no ticket is required to access the drop-off. Partnering with TRG in North Little Rock, all recycled copper proceeds will benefit the Lion Recovery Fund. This global conservation initiative aims to double the wild lion population by 2050 through expanded conservation and partnerships worldwide.

The zoo cannot accept ornaments, wire light displays, lawn deer, or plastic stakes. For larger donations, please call 501-371-4589.

Even if you don’t have lights or cords to recycle, you can still make a difference by donating directly. Every contribution supports meaningful action to protect African lions.
