China Military Basketball Team and Georgetown Fist Fight in “Friendly Match” [VIDEO]

In what was advertised as a friendly competition between two teams, their was a bench clearing melee that included the players, staff, family and fans.

In what the U.S. Embassy called an unfortunate events, the actions on a basketball court may reflect the growing tensions between the U.S. and China. After a hard foul by a Bayi Rocket player, things quickly got out of hand.

Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson III released the following statement:

"Tonight, two great teams played a very competitive game that unfortunately ended after heated exchanges with both teams. We sincerely regret that this situation occurred. We remain grateful for the opportunity our student-athletes are having to engage in a sport they love here in China, while strengthening their understanding of a nation we respect and admire at Georgetown University."

You can see in the video where Chinese fans throw chairs, bottles and garbage at the Georgetown players as they leave the court. Georgetown and the Bayi Rockets are scheduled to play again Sunday night in Shanghai. Ironically, this game was supposed to be a sign of goodwill to coincide with V.P. Joe Biden's visit to strengthen ties between the two countries. Biden was not at the game.
